Second to last sprint!

Dear sprinters,

It's been a while! I hope you're all ready for a brand new sprint. As you may have noticed over the last couple of weeks, it's awfully quiet on the Creative Sprint website and social media. Last month there even wasn't a blog post. I really felt bad about that and promise to make it up to you this weekend. But it also was a wake up call. Read more about the second to last sprint here. Because there was no blog post last month, we have two sprints to recap!

Portrait recap

In April's sprint Eriko Takatsuki came in first with his photo Free fall. With just 2 highfives less Oskar Derych became second with his portrait 'untitled'. And Rafal Michalek was right, and finished third with his photo 'Why not dog portrait :)'. In case you have to refresh your memory, there are some really amazing portraits in the other 117 photos. View all entries here!

Happiness recap

Veteran sprinter Aryeh Levine captured first place with his photo 'Happiness'. Jaydeep Chakrabarty came in second with the portrait 'Happiness is when you just hold her in your hand for the first time.' Third place was for Claire Munro with 'Untitled'. View all entries here!

Live support

Unfortunately there will be no Live support this sprint. For urgent questions you can reach us via support@creativesprint.com.

Late night activity

Dear sprinters,

What a huge sprint it was last month. Not only the first, but also the biggest sprint up to now! A great way to start off the year.

One recap

Number one in the One sprint was newcomer Bodhi with his photo 'The chosen one'. For the second time in a row, Elli came in 2nd with the photo 'The ONE and only'. The third place was conquered by Gabe with his photo 'The Chosen One'. Which means Gabe's winning strike has been broken by Bodhi and Elli.

New: activity

Just before last sprint we've added comments into the mix. A nice way to ask a sprinter a question about a specific image, or start a conversation. There was only one thing missing, how did you know when someone commented on one of your photos? Well, no longer. We've created a personal activity feed where you can view what other sprinters are saying about your photo. Nothing new? Hop in on one of the other conversations. You can find the personal activity feed by clicking on the little number next to your name in the main menu, or by clicking here.

Sprint 9, last sprint of 2013!

December 20, 2013 by creative sprint team

End 2013 with a creative bang!

Dear sprinters,

It's one of the most busiest and exciting times of the year, Christmas is on it's way and we're all getting ready for 2014. Which means it's time for the last sprint of 2013!

2013 recap

In April of this year we launched creative sprint as a side project because we felt the need to make more personal work but we just never got to it. So we needed a little push, a push to create. To experiment. Without pressure of clients, but with peer pressure to create the make the most creative image. Creative sprint allowed us to do that. And thanks to all of you we had a lot fun during the sprint weekends, we like to thank you all for inspiring us. We hope you all had a lot of fun during the sprint weekends and that it contributed to your creative journey / life.

Experiment recap

Last sprint weekend was one big 48 hour experiment, which leaded to a lot of very interesting and surprising images! Also surprising, was that the winner of the Experiment sprint was also the winner of Creepy, the previous sprint. Gabe from the United States won the sprint with his RGB experiment 'Testing the RGB' photo. What was less surprising was that this made him the absolute #1 in the overall rankings. Rob from The Netherlands came in second with his energetic photo 'Energie'. Kailin's photo 'Lost' was definitely not lost in the rankings as it came in third! Although the amount of uploads was a bit low, this is probably one of our favorite sprints as the results are truly surprising! Watch the photos.

New photo viewer!

As promised, this sprint we will launch the all new photo viewer! With bigger photos, less waiting time and easier navigation. Also, the Twitter button is back! We'll let you know as soon as the photo viewer is up. All ready for this last sprint and the upcoming 2014 sprints!

Live support

If you have any problems or questions, just hit the Live support button in the sidebar during these times. Or send us an e-mail. You’ll receive an answer within 24 hours (often much sooner).

Live chat schedule (times in UTC)

December 21, Start, 00:00 – 01:00
December 22, Last day 23:00 – 00:00
December 23, After sprint 00:00 – 01:00

End 2013 with a creative bang!

Sprint 9 is the last sprint of 2013 and looking at the amount of readers of our e-mail earlier this week, this sprint promises to be the biggest sprint of 2013. Don't miss it!

Have fun!

Sprint 8!

November 15, 2013 by creative sprint team

We feel like getting creative

Dear sprinters,

The last few days were pretty crazy, the website was down almost 2 days. But all that is behind us, it’s time for sprinter number 8! We must say, we really excited about this sprint! The reason? Nothing in particular, we just feel like getting creative this weekend! The theme of this sprint will most certainly allow you to do that…

Liar, liar, pants on fire!

Due to the problems of the last few days we weren’t able to implement the new photo viewer as promised last month. We’re sorry about that, we hope you can forgive us. But! We have a little surprise to make it up to you. We’re very excited about this new feature, but even more about the potential of future developments of this feature. Namely: a sprint feed! Currently it will only show who uploaded a photo when. What would you like to see in the feed? Feel free to send your ideas to info@creativesprint.com

Creepy recap

Don’t be scared, the title may imply that this is a creepy recap of the last sprint. But what we actually mean is that this is the recap of the Creepy sprint. Okay… We move on…

Seasoned sprinter Gabe from the U.S. came in first with his atmospheric and storytelling photo ‘Nightmares’. Kristi came in second as with her photo ‘Ghost boy’. Very Creepy effect! Newcomer Matt ended up third with his photo ‘Suffocation’. This one certainly gives you the chills. Congratualations to all winners! The results of last sprint completely changed the overall rankings. View new rankings here. And all the photos of Creepy here.

Thank you!

We would like to thank you all for filling out our most recent poll. The received answers and feedback are really valuable to us and will allow us to make creative sprint even more to your likings.

Live support

We had to alter the live support schedule due to the problems of the last couple of days. But we’re here to help you out if you experience any problems. Just send us an e-mail via support@creativesprint.com

Live chat schedule (times in UTC)
November 17, Last day 23:00 – 00:00
November 18, After sprint 00:00 – 01:00

E-mails will answered as soon as possible. (No more than 12 hours).

Have fun!

As said, this sprint will allow you to go overboard on creativity. Stretch your creativity and try something totally different this weekend. Have fun!

Love,
The creative sprint team

Sprint 7!

October 18, 2013 by creative sprint team

Sweet dreams

In a few hours it’s time for sprint number 7! We’re very excited about this one as we predict it to be a sprint we’ll remember for a long time. So make sure not to miss this one!

Special sprint recap

Sprint number 7 is actually the second sprint of october as we had the special sprint earlier this month. We’re very glad that so many of you joined us in the celebration of welcoming the 1000th sprinter. The results wear truly surprising! Thank you all!

Addison from the United States created an incredible beautiful photo of stained windows and thereby conquered the first spot in the overall rankings and was the absolute winner of the special sprint. Congratulations Addison! Also big ups to Stanislav from Belgium who kept his second place position in the rankings with his amazing zoom shot of windows. And Emad from Iran who created a crisp shot of a window through broken glass. And thereby claimed the third position in the rankings. Needless to say, we there wear a lot of wonderful and creative entries created once again. We think the quality and creativity bar for future sprints is raised once again.

Updates

We’ve added a small but very handy new feature into the website. After your photo upload, you will be redirected to your profile page where you can view your current entry for the sprint. It’s also possible to change your sub title now without needing to upload your photo again. Once again, a small improvement, but we thought it is one that is worth mentioning. If you have read our latest e-mail you know that we’re currently working on a brand new photo viewer and a private messaging system. We’re planning to launch the photo viewer before sprint 8. We’ll keep you posted on that.

Live support

After their absence during the special sprint, Martijn en Rick are here to save the day once again! If you have any problems or questions, just hit the Live support button in the sidebar during these times. Or send us an e-mail. You’ll receive an answer within 24 hours (during sprint weekend).

Schedule (times in UTC)
October 19, First day 00:00 – 01:00
October 20, Last day 23:00 – 00:00
October 21, After sprint 00:00 – 01:00

Are you still in shape?

We hope you are still in shape after the special sprint which did last 7 days! This time we need to shift gears as there will only be 48 hours on the clock. As mentioned before, we expect this sprint to be one we’ll remember for a long time as the results might make a lasting impression… We might need to warn you that some of the results could turn out to be a bit scary. We’ll review the results before publishing them to make sure we can warn you if we feel it’s necessery to do so. But don’t let us scare you…

Sweet dreams,

Have fun!

Special sprint (2)

October 2, 2013 by creative sprint team

Get creative

In a few hours we will launch a special sprint to celebrate the 1.000 sprinters milestone. Once again we would like to thank you all for making creative sprint so awesome! As you may know, the special sprint will last 168 hours (7 days) instead of 48 hours. So there is no excuse to not get extra creative this time!

Colorful

What a treat it was to view the results for Colorful! The diversity was immense, the colors wear popping and creativity levels high. Please view the photos one more as they all deserve another look. But ofcrouse there can only be one winner, congratualations to Anna Hatle!

No live support

We will have no live support during this sprint. But, if you have a question or comment, don’t hesitate to contact us via support@creativesprint.com. We strive to answer all questions within 24 hours.

Big new feature release

There haven’t been a lot of mayor updates over the last months. Ofcourse we have added some small features and did some small improvements. But not to the extend we would like to. But, we have some great news! We’re currently working on a new bad ass feature. Something we would like to add for a long time but couldn’t figure out. This will improve the creative sprint experience times 10 and allow you to connect with other sprinters before, during and after sprint! We keep you posted.

Lastly, have fun and get creative!

Have fun!

Special sprint announcement (1)

September 22, 2013 by creative sprint team

Thank you all!

We’re very excited to announce that we’ve welcomed the 1000th sprinter! A huge welcome to Ryan Waxman and all other new sprinters!

Congrats to all of you! Thank you all so much for making creative sprint so awesome! You guys rock!

As said in a recent e-mail, we would love to celebrate 1000 sprinters milestone with all of you. A lot of you have been asking us to host more sprints. So what better way to celebrate this milestone with an (extra) special sprint?!

As the sprint announcement is somewhat abrupt and we know all of you are very busy. We’ve chosen to extend this special sprint to 7 days instead of 48 hours, so nobody has to miss it!

Let’s celebrate this milestone together, from october 3 through 9.

Good luck during the voting round of Colorful!

Talk to you soon,

Love,
The creative sprint team

If you have a theme suggestion for this sprint, please feel free to send an e-mail to info@creativesprint.com subject: Theme suggestion.

Sprint 6!

September 20, 2013 by creative sprint team

Surprise, surprise

In about 8 hours, sprint number 6! What a sprint it was last month. To our big surprise we passed the 100 entries in the last minutes. Thank you all! You guys rock! We had a lot of fun making our entry for Selfie. But even more, we had a lot of fun watching all entries. There wear a lot fun, cool, creative and beautiful photos created last sprint! We hope you had a lot fun too, but judging on the photos you certainly did. Not only the amount of entries and the entries themselves wear surprising… Newcommer Stanislav joined us an conquered both the 1st place for Selfie and became overall number 1. Well deserved.

Updates

- Voting round is shortened, from 7 days down to 3 days.
- Take a look into the future! View the calendar for upcomming sprints.
- Last month we experienced problems in the early hours of the sprint due to the move to our new server. Some sprinters couldn’t upload their entry. But what was even worse, they received a message that the upload was succesful… We can’t imagine how frustrating this must have been. So we’ve added the photos from the sprinters who contacted us later on. To make sure this can’t happen again we’ve added a triple check after the photo is uploaded. If for some reason the photo upload failed, you at least get a notice and are asked to contact us directly.
- A few small improvements on speed and usability. (Including: count in hours for next sprint and during voting round, feautured moved to top bar etc.)

Live support

Once again Martijn en Rick are here to save the day. If you have any problems or questions, just hit the Live support button in the sidebar during these times. Or send us an e-mail. You’ll receive an answer within 24 hours (during sprint weekend).

Schedule (times in UTC)
September 21, First day 00:00 – 01:30
September 22, Last day 23:00 – 00:00
September 23, After sprint 00:00 – 01:30

Have fun!

As said Stanislav currently holds the number 1 position. What surprises will this sprint bring? Who will be number 1 after this weekend’s sprint? Will it be a new sprinter or will one of the more experienced sprinters rise to the top?

We would like to thank you all for your kind words and great feedback! We’re working hard to improve creative sprint every month. We especially like to thank Stanislav for his ideas and feedback over the course of the last month. He truly handed us a lot of great ideas. Some of them which we’ve already implemented and much more to come. If you have any ideas please contact us.

We hope you have a lot of fun this weekend, enjoy the creative process!

See you in a few hours!

Love,
The creative sprint team

Sprint 5!

August 16, 2013 by creative sprint team

The roof is on fire

Finally… In a few hours sprint number 5! We’re defenitly fired up about this sprint! Which brings me to Dominik, Dominik almost set his balcony on fire during the making of his entry for Secret last month. What will this sprint weekend bring? Feel free to share your story with us.

The theme is...

Ofcourse the theme will remain secret till 00:00 UTC. But what we can tell you is, that it’s going to be something… Something a bit different… A theme that will make you frown your eyebrows for sure. Don’t take it too serious, have a little fun this theme! (Or make fun of it?) We're very curious about what you all come up with!

Updates

- We moved to a new server! We went from a regular webhosting package to our own virtual server. Which allows us to have much more control over the performance of the website. And allows to build a lot of cool new features in the near future.
- Countdown clock is fixed. During a test run we discoverd that the coutndown was not working correctly in all timezones. However, this had no impact on the game itself. It could possibly be confusing for some of you. We're sorry about that. This issue has now been fixed.
- Medals! We have added medals to the profiles of sprinters who became either 1st, 2nd or 3rd in a sprint. If you have non, make sure to earn yours this weekend!

Live support

Last sprint we introduced Live support. Although there weren't a lot of questions to answer or problems to solve, we had a blast! So we're back this weekend. If you have any questions or problems this weekend, or just want to hang out, just open up a chat session.

Schedule (times in UTC)
August 17, First day 00:00 – 01:30
August 18, Last day 23:00 - 00:00
August 19, After sprint 00:00 – 01:30

Hit the Live support button in the menu on the left. If the support team is offline you can always send us an e-mail. You’ll receive an answer within 24 hours.

Have fun!

Last sprint Bosse was our great winner! Meanwhile, Melissa is #1 in the overall rankings for 2 months now. Who will be #1 next week?

See you tonight!

500 creatives

August 6, 2013 by Rick

A personal "letter" from Rick

I'm very proud to announce that the 500th sprinter joined our community today. A huge welcome to Robin Giordano and all other new sprinters!

Last months sprint blew me and the other team members away. There were some really surprisingly creative and beautiful shots created for Secret! Thank you all for joining and participating in the Creative Sprint community. It really delights me to see that so many creative people joined us in such a short time span. A community website that doesn’t even has a real track record. Please allow me to tell you a little bit more about the idea behind creative sprint and what we hope it will become.

I started creative sprint back in september 2012. With the help of my friends; Sander, Paul and Google we were ready for our first sprint in April this year. We started out with a select group of 30 photographers. Since that first sprint the community grew exponentially.

About 1,5 years after receiving my diploma for photography. I started missing the projects we had during our time in school. I had done some work for clients but always felt kind of alone in preparation and post processing. During a school project there were about 30 photographers working on the same assignment. Now there was only me. During a project you could always talk to someone about what they were doing and there was never any pressure of clients. You were able to really experiment.

After a few days / weeks we’d come together and show each other the results. It was always fun to see what others had come up with. It inspired me. It motivated me to be more creative next time. Improve myself again and again.

I wanted to create that same kind of environment. A time / place were you could experiment. Where there were more people working on the same assignment. The original idea was to host weekends for some old photography class mates and colleagues where we would all get one or more assignments. But I soon realized that it would be tough to get a descent group of photographers together, that would be able and willing to spend an whole weekend just for fun. And if we pulled it of, one time per year would be about the maximum. It would be much more practical to do it online. And so creative sprint was born.

Last sprint felt like the idea had come to life! We even passed the 30 entries (size of photography class) with 54 original entries.

I hope the creative sprint community will continue to grow and it becomes a place like school, in some ways at least… A place where you are able experiment with your photography, where you can easily connect with other photographers (we’re working on that), get inspiration and get motivated to improve yourself every time. A place to have fun with creativity and creative people!

Please help us build YOUR creative sprint

At it’s core, creative sprint is just a bunch of code on a server somewhere in the Netherlands. What makes it fun, is creative people like yourself. So we want to make the best bunch of code, which allows you to be creative and especially have fun. So if you have any ideas, feedback, complaints please feel free contact us. We really appreciate your input.

Sprint 5, next week!

Next week august (17+18) it’s time for sprint #5. I hope you join us.

Thank you,
Have fun!

Rick + creative sprint team

Credits

I’d like to thank our team. Without them creative sprint would never have been what it is today. Sander van Rooij, Paul van de Veerdonk and Martijn van Rijn.

First international sprint

We are very very excited for this weekend’s sprint, the third sprint since the beginning in April. The last 2 weeks were crazy. Our member base grew by almost 50% and we have welcomed photographers from the US, India, Canada and Australia. We had to put new registrations on hold as we are still in bèta and we want to make sure everything works as it is supposed to. But don’t worry if you didn’t make it, after the third sprint we open up our registration page to new photographers! (Notify me)

Updates

Since last sprint some things have changed / have been added.

- History page is now called “Photos”
- We added a rankings page to easily view your score and ranking. (recent update: now with country flags).
- Easily invite your friends via email. You can do so after you signed in.
- We won’t forget you! Up until this point you had to sign in every hour for your browser to remember you. To save some valuable seconds in a sprint weekend we have changed it so that you logging in will be remembered until you sign out.
- All entries are now on the homepage after the sprint is over. Ready for you to vote! Don’t forget to sign in.
- We have dramaticly improved the image quality. We tried to find the right balance between loading time and image quality.. We’re still actively experimenting with enhancing the quality while keeping loading to a minimum. Please let us know what you think of the photo quality changes.

Making history

Tonights sprint is going to be a game changer, and we’re very happy you’re part of it. The sprint starts tonight at 00:00 UTC, for newcomers, please check here how to play if you have any questions. Are you guys ready to make history? Who will be #1 in this months sprint? Rick won the last 2 times, don’t let him win 3 sprints in a row, so give it your all and beat him this weekend!

Thank you all for you participation in the creative sprint project!

Have fun this weekend!

See you tonight!

First things, first...

First off we would like you to thank all of you again for participating in the last sprint, signing up, or just stopping by. We are delighted to have all of you showing interest in creative sprint and we were pleasantly surprised by the uploads from the last month. We thank you for the feedback we have received and we immediately went to work. We have changed things up a bit for the second sprint.

New features:

- Photo description is now a sub title (max. 75 characters)
- Users are now anonymous during the voting round
- You can now share you photo via Twitter (once, the voting round is over, you can share you photo from the last theme now)
- Users can only vote if they participated in the current sprint OR have participated at least once in the past
- We show the upload count while the sprint is live

Fixed:

- Sending e-mails out again after registration
- Your username (e-mail address) is not case sensitive anymore

What’s the theme?

Of course this will remain a secret untill tonight. But unfortunately it wasn’t clear last with the last theme. So we decided to send every user an e-mail in which the theme will be announced. You will receive this email when the sprint starts (tonight at 00:00 UTC). We will also tweet this months theme. We will do so several times during the sprint.

Prepare yourself

Charge your batteries, empty your memory cards, get a few stacks of paper and get ready for round #2. Can you end up higher this round? Can you beat Rick?

See you all tonight,

Love,
